Lisa's Undefeated Oven-Bag Thanksgiving Turkey

This one lives in The GLP-1 Kitchen, but let's be real, sis: nobody is counting macros on Thanksgiving, and neither am I. This is my undefeated, fall-off-the-bone turkey. Seasoned butter, an oven bag, and a little patience. No measuring cups needed; season it the way you love it.

Serves the whole family | About 4 hours at 350°F

Why this turkey?

Okay, let's talk turkey. Thanksgiving is the one day I don't tiptoe around the kitchen, and this bird is the reason. It's seasoned butter, an oven bag, and patience. That's it. No brining bucket taking over your fridge, no basting every 20 minutes, no stress.

The oven bag is the secret. It traps the steam and the butter inside, so the turkey cooks in its own juices and comes out tender, juicy and fall-off-the-bone. If you've ever carved a dry turkey and passed the gravy boat like an apology, this one is for you.

The butter is the whole personality

I don't measure, and honestly, I don't think you should either. Whip your seasonings into soft butter, taste the vibe, and season it the way your family likes it. More garlic? Go. Extra paprika for color? Go. Your kitchen, your rules.

The part that matters: put on your gloves and get that butter everywhere. On top of the skin, under the skin, inside the bird. Every nook and cranny. That's where the flavor lives.

Ingredients

No measurements here. I season by feel, so use as much of each as you like.

Steps

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  2. Soften the butter: pop it in the microwave for about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
  3. Stir your seasonings into the softened butter, as much as you like, and whip it all together until it's fully mixed.
  4. Put your gloves on and massage that seasoned butter all over the turkey: on top of the skin, under the skin, and inside the turkey. Get every nook and cranny.
  5. Open the oven bag over your roasting pan and add a little seasoned butter into the bag. Tuck in your bay leaves.
  6. Gently place the turkey in the bag and seal it tight with the zip tie from the box. Follow the oven bag box for any extra steps it lists.
  7. Roast at 350°F. My turkey took about 4 hours. Cook time depends on the size of your bird, so check the chart on the oven bag box. It's done when a thermometer in the thickest part of the thigh reads 165°F.
  8. Carefully open the bag (watch the hot steam), let the turkey rest, then carve and enjoy.
